The history of Turkish coffee dates to the mid 1500’s when Syrian traders first brought coffee for the city of Istanbul. For many years thereafter coffee experienced something of a reputation as a beverage associated with intellectuals and had not really spread a lot in popularity. During the 17th century the Ottoman Court became a mecca for coffee drinking when coffee makers served the drink to the Sultan.
